Understanding the benefits of caffeine and L-theanine



While most of us have a basic understanding of what caffeine is, and what it does, L-theanine is a lesser-known additive. L-theanine is an amino acid that is derived from tea leaves, and also some mushrooms. L-theanine helps to support alertness, but can also aid in a good night's sleep and deep relaxation.

There are four main green teas with high levels of L-theanine; Matcha, Hojicha, Gyokuro, and Sencha. Matcha is number one on the list, with the highest level of the amino acid of all teas in the green tea category.



Combining Caffeine and L-theanine

One of the best aspects of L-theanine is that it allows the body and mind to relax without causing a sluggish effect. It has the ability to keep you alert but cuts out the jitters that straight caffeine can cause.


Not only is mixing Caffeine and L-theanine safe, but it can also help to improve the brain's cognitive function and stimulate alertness. When the two are working together they complement each other in the best way. The natural calming effect of L-theanine helps to relax the harsher side effects that come along with caffeine.
