Summer simmer pots that will make your home smell amazing!
This week we're putting a fresh spin on a winter classic. A simple simmer pot is an easy way to get in the spirit of the season no matter what time of the year. The key is changing up the ingredients with the times. In Fall and Winter we'd typically use spices and herbs such as cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. And fruit and berries like orange slices or cranberries. A Spring or Summer simmer pot trades the oranges for lemons, and the clove for mint.
Creating a summer simmer pot that refreshes the air throughout your house only takes about 10 minutes to put together.
Ingredients
2 Lemons sliced thinly
1 Bunch of fresh mint
1 tbsp of Lavender
1 tsp of vanilla extract
Directions
Boil 2 quarts of water in a large cooking pot.
Once you've reached a roiling boil, lower the temperature to medium-low heat.
Add your collected ingredients to the pot, and do not cover.
Enjoy the fresh scents of Spring and Summer all day long!
Tea Time
If you're not a fan of lavender, no problem. The simmer pot herbs and spices are interchangeable. Maybe try lemongrass or rosemary instead. Want your summer pot to be extra floral? Add rose petals and skip the vanilla extract. The combination possibilities are endless!
