Nepal Tea Journey 2027: From Tea Gardens to Shared Tables

What would you ask the person who grew the tea in your cup? On our Nepal Tea Journey, June 10–19, 2027, that curiosity becomes the starting point for time in tea gardens, hands-on tea making, shared meals and conversations along the way. Catalyst Tea Company is bringing together a group in collaboration with Nepal Tea Collective. Here is a closer look at the proposed experience, and what to consider if you are thinking about joining us.

Follow the leaves through tea making

A tasting can introduce you to a finished tea. Spending time where it is grown gives you another way to understand it. The proposed itinerary includes visiting tea gardens in eastern Nepal, picking fresh leaves and following the work that turns those leaves into tea.

At the farm, the itinerary describes plucking, watching the leaves wither, rolling them by hand and returning to see them dry. That sequence gives you concrete questions to bring to a grower or tea maker: What are you looking for when you choose a leaf? What changes as it withers? What do you notice when you roll it? You do not need to arrive with technical vocabulary to ask.

Make room for tasting and conversation

Guided tastings and factory visits are part of the proposed route. Rather than trying to find the “right” description, start with something you can notice: the aroma before a sip, the way a tea feels in your mouth, or the flavor that remains afterward. Then ask what the tea maker notices in the same cup.

A small notebook can help you keep those impressions. Give each tea its own page and write down its name, where you tasted it and one question you asked. A few ordinary words are enough. Those notes can become useful when you make a cup at home and want to remember the people and process behind it.

Explore the places around the tea

The journey also makes space for cultural visits and practical creativity. The proposed itinerary includes Boudhanath Stupa and Patan Durbar Square, followed by time in Bhaktapur, a visit to a Thangka school and an opportunity to try pottery making. These experiences sit alongside the tea visits, giving the journey several different rhythms.

Shared food is another part of the route. The itinerary includes local snacks, meals with hosts and a dumpling-making class. There is time to learn with your hands as well as through conversation, whether you are shaping clay, preparing food or working with fresh tea leaves. Specific activities may change with weather, local conditions and the needs of the group.

Consider the pace before you join

This is a journey with travel between places as well as time in gardens and cities. The proposed route includes a domestic flight and several road transfers. It also describes a tea-garden hike of around two hours. Before deciding, ask about walking conditions, transport, accommodation and the support available for your needs.

Think about what would help you enjoy the experience. You might want more detail about food arrangements, room options or how much free time is built into the days. Put those questions beside the itinerary as you read it. They are useful planning questions, and Karina can follow up as the group details are arranged.

Our dates and your next step

Our Catalyst group dates are June 10–19, 2027. The itinerary is a proposed guide to the experience, rather than a promise that every stop will happen exactly as listed. Pricing, inclusions and joining details should be confirmed with Karina before making travel commitments.
