Autumnal Tea Pairings

A tea pairing guide for your favorite fall sweets and treats!

It's that wonderful time of the year again. The colors on the trees are changing, there's a crisp nip in the air, and pumpkin spice everything reigns supreme. This week we'll look at some classic fall flavors, and what teas they pair well with.

Pumpkin Spice

Of course, we're starting off with our main contender, pumpkin spice. To get a good sense of the fall treats that pair well with say, our very own Pumpkin Spice Chai, we must first ask what spices are in pumpkin spice. You may be surprised to find out that the overall flavor of 'Pumpkin Spice' has nothing to do with pumpkin at all. The base is largely made up of a combination of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger.

That being said when looking for desserts to pair with a pumpkin spice-flavored tea, we should look to treats with a similar flavor profile. This time of the year naturally lends itself to all things pumpkin. So pumpkin pie, pumpkin scones, and bread should be easy to get your hands on.

Hot Apple Pie

Nothing says cozy comfort like a warmed-up slice of apple pie. And what better tea pairing could there be than our very own Apple Chai? This blend of Assam black tea with apple, cinnamon, and green cardamom is great to enjoy in the morning or afternoon. It has a rich malty taste, rounded out by sweet notes of warming cinnamon.

Pair our apple chai with everything and anything apple. Desserts such as apple crisps, caramel apples, and apple muffins are all great pairings for an autumn tea time.

Maple Syrup

Possibly one of the most sought-after fall flavors besides pumpkin spice is maple. Maple cookies, glazed maple donuts, and even maple-flavored vinaigrettes become popular staples in the house during the autumn season. A simple Spicy Chai is a great pairing to maple, as it helps to balance out the super sweet notes of the maple flavoring.
